
Working for a Better Montclair


Mayor Javier "John" Dutrey is a lifelong resident of Montclair and a proud graduate of Montclair High School. Before his tenure as the Mayor he served on the Montclair City Council and brings decades of experience in public service to his role.
He and his wife, Anne, have two children and two grandchildren, with both Anne and their son being U.S. Army veterans. Anne coordinates the food pantry at their church, Our Lady of Lourdes. Mayor Dutrey is also the son of Basque immigrants who ran a local business in Montclair for almost 50 years.
Mayor Dutrey holds two degrees from California State University, San Bernardino: a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Master of Arts in Public Administration.
His professional career spans both the public and private sectors. It includes work in Real Estate— focusing on property and development; Urban Planning— concentrating on land use, housing, and community development; and Economic Development— aimed at supporting local businesses and job creation.
